Anna Jervaeus
About me
I am a registered nurse since 2003 and I have mainly been working with cancer care in different contexts.
I have a master in Medical Science with a major in Global Health from 探花精选 2010.
In 2010 I started my research education at 探花精选 and in May 2014 I defended my thesis. The focus for my thesis was on health-related
quality of life, independence and sexuality and both quantitative and qualitative methods were used.
From August 2014 I have worked as lecturer and from January 2020 as assistant professor at the Division of Nursing and Im also involved in several research activities and belong to Susanne Andermo麓s research group.
I was accepted as Docent of Nursing Science in June 2021.
Besides that, during 2016 and 2017 I have worked as coordinator for the programme for doctoral education in health care science (PUF-V). The
programme provides a range of learning activities for doctoral students within the specific research theme of health care science and also offers
opportunities for networking.
From 2021 to December 2022 I was Associate programme director for the Study programmes in specialist nursing responsible for the ongoing work at the different programmes. The programme director (PD) has, upon delegation from the Head of Department or the Committee for Higher Education, an overall responsibility for the ongoing work on the programmes.
In November 2022 I received a large grant from The Swedish Cancer Society so for 2023-2025 I have worked full-time with research. Please see below for more details.During 2025 I became involved in two EU-funded projects focusing on adolescents and young adults with cancer. Please see below for details.

Research
Titel of thesis: Being young with a cancer experience- Health-related quality of life with special focus on independence and sexuality.
One of the research projects I have been involved in is Screening for colorectal cancer- experiences from participants and non-participants, aimed at exploring how individuals reason when deciding to participate or not in a screening program. The project has been a part of the larger SCREESCO study (Screening of Swedish Colons) and is now finalized. My responsibilities mainly concerned analyses of quantitative data from several questionnaires regarding shared decision-making, health literacy and anxiety. I was also co-supervisor for one PhD-student working in the project. The project now continues with the development of a digital decision-aid for those invited to screening, with the possibility to be used in several screening programs. For this project we have received a large amount of money from the Swedish Cancer Society.
Another research project I have worked with is OptiTrain. This randomised controlled trial compared the effect of different physical exercise regimens on the physical and mental well-being in women with breast cancer during and after chemo- and hormonal therapy.
I have also been engaged in a research collaboration were we have analysed interviews from patients, suffering from aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage (aSAH), and there family members. Research in this area is lacking and the aim was therefore to explore the recovery and the need for support during the first year after a aSAH. We have published several papers on the topic.
In addition, I together with other researchers have started a project aiming at testing and evaluating a psychosocial support program (Promoting Resilience in Stress Management, PRISM) for adolescents and young adults newly diagnosed with cancer. We have translated and adapted a program from Seattle, a pilot study has been performed, evaluated and the main study is now running. One PhD-student i registered in the project. PRISM is part of the larger project MyCode (MinKod). The two EU-projects I am involved in regard young people with cancer:
aims to improve the understanding and prediction of late effects- especially reproductive toxicity- in adolescents and young adults (AYAs) aged 15-39 treated for cancer.
will develop an international clinical guideline for screening and follow-up of late effects of Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) cancer, which will be implemented via a novel person-centred screening programme (AYA Cancer Survivor Screen). The project will improve the health and quality of life of survivors across Europe through better Survivorship Care.
Please see my publication list for further information.

Grants
- Development and implementation of a Decision Aid in Swedish cancer screening programsThe Swedish cancer society1 January 2023 - 31 December 2025Research questions: The main aim with the project is to design, implement and evaluate a digital decision aid (DA) for individuals invited to screening in one of the national cancer screening programs in Sweden. The DA is thought to enhance informed decision-making and participation in cancer screening and to prevent cancer, i.e. prevention. Previous research has shown that individuals using a DA in cancer screening gain knowledge on cancer and screening, perceive themselves as well-informed, make decisions in line with own values, and are more satisfied with their decision. DAs have also been shown to be cost effective. Data and methods: The project is performed in two phases. Phase 1: The digital DA is developed with a mixed method design based on the International Patient Decision Aid Standards (IPDAS). Individuals from the general population and various experts will be engaged in the development and testing. Phase 2: After testing has been finalized, the DA will be introduced to the public and evaluated continuously. The activity of users and how they navigate will be logged. Relevance The purpose with cancer screening is to prevent cancer in the population and thereby a good thing from an individual-, health care-, and societal perspective. Early detection of disease decreases morbidity, mortality and health care expenses. A challenge for population-based screening programs is to gain high participation. Some groups in society participate to a lesser extent than others, something of concern from an equality perspective. Information on cancer and screening is widespread today and thereby difficult to find. The DA implies a platform for information and communication where one can test knowledge and values and communicate with the health care sector. The purpose with the DA is to make the information adjusted and accessible for all and uniform in all regions.
