Marcus Skribek
About me
I am a Clinical Oncologist at Karolinska University Hospital and a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Oncology-Pathology at ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡, with a focus on improving outcomes for patients with lung cancer.
My work spans translational research, registry-based real-world evidence, and clinical trial development. I serve as Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator in national and international trials and lead projects on treatment sequencing, brain metastases, toxicity, corticosteroid use, predictive modeling, and more. I have co-developed clinical tools to support therapeutic decision-making and improve survival in real-world settings.
Previously, I served as Acting Head of the Lung Cancer Section, leading one of Sweden’s highest-volume thoracic oncology units. I am also engaged in international academic collaborations and have contributed to clinical guidelines, oncology education, and high-impact publications.
My goal is to integrate clinical insight with data-driven innovation to advance personalized care, inform drug development, and improve outcomes for patients with thoracic malignancies globally.
Research
My research focuses on advancing thoracic oncology through translational science, real-world evidence, and applied analytics. As a clinical oncologist, I bring a patient-centered perspective to research, ensuring that scientific questions and outcomes are grounded in clinical relevance and real-world impact.
My work spans treatment resistance, brain metastases, immunotherapy, comedications, and toxicity management in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). I lead and collaborate on studies using national registry data, retrospective cohorts, and clinical trial datasets to explore predictive biomarkers, treatment sequencing strategies, and health outcomes.
I have developed and validated clinical tools and prognostic models that support therapeutic decision-making in daily practice. My expertise includes multivariable modeling, survival analysis, propensity score methods, and integration of findings into multidisciplinary clinical care.
I serve as Principal and Co-Investigator in national and international clinical trials, and my ongoing projects include investigations of corticosteroid impact on ICI outcomes, intracranial response dynamics, and optimized therapy for CNS-involved NSCLC—with the goal of personalizing treatment and improving survival and quality of life for patients.
Teaching
I am actively engaged in ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ education, with experience across academic, clinical, and research-based teaching:
- Seminar leader in oncology and cancer biology, including targeted therapies and immuno-oncology.
- Clinical supervisor for ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ students and junior doctors in oncology rotations at Karolinska University Hospital.
- Research supervisor in Ekman’s lab, mentoring ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ students, PhD candidates, and clinical researchers on translational and real-world data projects.
- Former coordinator of resident education in oncology, responsible for designing and delivering structured seminar series and clinical teaching programs.
- Author of local clinical guidelines for the use of hematopoietic growth factors in patients with solid tumors.
- Peer reviewer for multiple high-impact international journals in oncology and translational medicine.
