About me

  • I am an Associate Professor at the Division of Physiotherapy, Department of NVS, KI, with research focused on physical activity and sports medicine. In 2017, I defended my thesis titled "Injuries, Risk Factors, Consequences, and Injury Perceptions in Adolescent Elite Athletes." From 2018 to 2020, I completed my postdoctoral fellowship at KI and have since combined research with teaching. I have strong expertise in data analysis and hold a specialist degree in physiotherapy.

Research

  • My research focuses on disease prevention, the effects of physical activity, and the relationship between lifestyle factors and health. I investigate: a) the association between physical activity and disease risk, b) how physical activity, sedentary behavior, and sleep throughout the day influence various health outcomes, and c) interventions, such as M-Health, to prevent disease and promote health. My work integrates epidemiology, methodological development, and intervention research, applying advanced statistical methods. I have successfully secured grants from SFO-V, AFA, Cancerfonden, and the Centrum f枚r Idrottsforskning. I currently supervise three PhD students and co-supervise another three, and I serve as the deputy group leader of the research group "Physical Activity and Sports Medicine with focus on prevention".

Teaching

  • I am deeply committed to education and learning, actively working to develop and enhance courses with a strong focus on student-centered learning. I have completed courses in pedagogy, distance learning, course design, and the use of online tools to promote engagement and learning. In my teaching, I aim to inspire students to find their own motivation and take an active role in their pursuit of knowledge. My teaching primarily covers musculoskeletal disorders, research methodology, and statistics, and I have extensive experience supervising bachelor鈥檚 and master鈥檚 level students.

Cancer is a major public health problem and globally causes about 10 million deaths each year. Physical activity, sedentary behavior and sleep affect health and the risk of developing certain cancers. However, individual strategies for preventing various cancers based on physical activity, sedentary behavior and sleep are lacking and few studies have investigated how these behaviors should be combined to reduce the risk of being affected. Since millions of people from all age groups, regions and countries are affected annually by various cancers, it is important to develop preventive measures. In this project, the risk of developing breast cancer, prostate cancer and colon cancer will be studied through epidemiological studies. By connecting different registers, we will study how lifestyle factors, demographic, socio-economic and genetic factors contribute to the development of various cancers. The long-term aim of this project is to lay the foundation for the prevention of various cancers based on physical activity, sedentary behavior and sleep. The goal is to develop individual measures to reduce the risk of suffering from some of the most common cancers.
