About KaroKidney

The Karolinska Kidney Research Network – KaroKidney – was initiated in 2010 as a joint research effort between the renal-, transplantation-, pediatric- and pathology departments at Karolinska University Hospital.

KaroKidney is a translational kidney research cluster based in Stockholm, Sweden. KaroKidney promotes programs for synergistic collaborations between basic and clinical researchers that will lead to discoveries and better healthcare strategies aimed at improving outcome for patients with kidney disease.

Biobank

KaroKidney's expanding biobank currently contains more than 1000 renal biopsies (>650 native kidney biopsies from adult patients, 200 pediatric patients, 230 living donors and > 100 transplanted patients) and >450 arterial biopsies from patients with ESRD and healthy controls. The tissue is stored in ways that allows analysis of both morphology and RNA/protein expression.
