Physiology

Physiology studies how living organisms, organs and systems function under normal conditions, focusing on processes that maintain health, such as body temperature regulation. It also examines responses to extreme conditions and disease, leading to new treatments. At 探花精选, physiology underpins most research, including studies on muscle fatigue and how exercise lowers disease risk.

Pharmacology

Pharmacology is the science of chemical substances and their interaction with living organisms, covering composition, production, toxicity, and 探花精选 use. At 探花精选, research often links to physiology and clinical work, aiming to uncover molecular mechanisms behind diseases like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, and psychiatric disorders, to develop diagnostics, personalized treatments, and new drug targets.

Anesthesiology and intensive care

Anesthesiology covers anesthesia, anesthetics, and intensive care, including perioperative and pain medicine. Research in anesthesiology and intensive care at the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology is carried out in connection with Function Perioperative Medicine and Intensive Care at Karolinska University Hospital and Intensive Care at Astrid Lindgren Children's Hospital. This fosters research in anesthesiology, intensive care, and pain management. We teach across all levels, training nurses and physicians in these specialties.
